TrueClicks grades your Google Ads account continuously against a fixed checklist and gives agencies a score to monitor and show clients. AdCopilot answers the question every score raises — why is this failing, and what exactly do I change — and then changes it with you, approval by approval. The products meet at the word "audit" and diverge immediately after it.
What TrueClicks is, described fairly
TrueClicks presents itself as much-awarded PPC management software, "born from PPC expertise, built for the AI era," with a model agencies find easy to adopt: connect accounts, get continuous audits that check them against a broad checklist, watch scores over time, and use the findings for monitoring and client communication. There is a free way to try it; published tier pricing was not on its site at the time of writing, so verify current numbers directly.
Two things deserve unprompted credit. First, the format: a standing score that moves is an honest management artefact — it survives staff changes, fits a dashboard, and gives clients something legible. Second, the company's open-source contribution: free read-only Google Ads MCP servers that need no developer token, because authentication rides TrueClicks's own service. That removed the single biggest setup hurdle in the free self-hosted category — a genuinely clever piece of engineering given away.
The checklist ceiling: findings without execution
A fixed checklist has a ceiling, and it is worth stating without sneering. It checks what it checks: the known patterns, encoded once, run forever. What it cannot do is chase the finding — ask why the account fails that check here, whether the failure matters at this spend level, and what the specific right fix is for this business. And the checklist does not execute: the score points, a person still has to travel to the account and make the change. TrueClicks's own MCP servers, being read-only, inherit the same ceiling inside an AI client: excellent questions, no hands.
Conversational audits: from finding to fix in one thread
AdCopilot's model is the inverted workflow. Ask the audit questions — search terms that spent without converting, negative conflicts, disapprovals, thin ad groups, budget-capped campaigns — and the agent pulls live data and argues its findings in front of you. Then the same thread executes: add these negatives, pause those keywords, fix that schedule, each write surfacing for approval in your client, each call logged to an audit trail, attributed to your own Google sign-in.
The structural safety matters here because execution is exactly where audit tools fear to tread: AdCopilot cannot delete anything. The four remove tools are never exposed, and any mutate carrying status REMOVED is refused server-side, in any letter case. Cleanup means pausing — and a paused campaign can be re-enabled.
Agency reporting: scores for clients vs narratives for clients
Agencies live on artefacts, and the two products produce different ones. A TrueClicks score says "your account health moved from B to A this quarter" — compact, comparable, trend-friendly. A copilot produces the narrative: five plain-language bullets on what was found, what was changed, and what is next — drafted by the agent from live data, edited by a human. Score-driven clients exist and narrative-driven clients exist; a mature agency probably sends both, which is one honest reason this comparison ends in "and", not "or". The team mechanics on our side — per-member Google sign-in, individual revocation, change attribution — are covered in AdCopilot for agencies.

Who should honestly pick which
Pick TrueClicks if you run many accounts and the thing you lack is standing visibility: a grade per account, tracked over time, cheap to show clients, with continuous checks nobody has to remember to run. Its free read-only MCP servers are also the best zero-cost way to get GAQL reads into an AI client.
Pick AdCopilot if the thing you lack is hands: findings are piling up faster than anyone converts them into changes, and you want the investigation and the fix in one approved, logged conversation.
The cheapest possible experiment covers both sides: keep whatever audit scoring you have, and run the free trial for a week — feed it your current audit's top five findings and count how many are fixed, with approvals, by Friday.
